Guide overview

Submitting the application is a major step, but there are still a few useful checks to make before secondary offers are released.

01

Save and check your application record

Keep the submission confirmation, application reference, final preference order and copies of every separate form. Check that names, the home address and school choices are correct.

Contact your council promptly if you discover an error. Do not submit an unnecessary duplicate application because local procedures for amendments differ.

02

Keep important information up to date

Tell the relevant council and schools if your address or circumstances change. Follow their evidence rules because an address change may affect how an application is assessed.

Keep checking messages from your council and any schools that run assessments, request evidence or publish separate arrangements.

03

Prepare for National Offer Day

Secondary offers are normally sent on 1 March, or the next working day when required. Read the offer instructions and respond by the deadline given by your council.

If you do not receive your preferred school, accepting the offered place normally protects your child while you consider waiting lists or an appeal.

What to do next
  1. Save the application confirmation and every supporting document.
  2. Check how your council handles corrections and address changes.
  3. Record National Offer Day and the expected response deadline.
  4. Keep your available offer while considering waiting lists or an appeal.

Keep the journey moving by comparing schools, checking deadlines and saving the guide that matches your route.
